Elephant Facts:
- Elephants are the largest land animals in the world
- An Asian male may reach up to 10 feet at the shoulder and way 6 tons
- An African male may way up to 7 tons
- The trunk of an elephant is sensitive enough to pick uo a single blade of grass, yet strong
enough to pick up a heavy log. Wow you know that is so amazing.
- An elephant can draw up tp 4 gallons of water in its trunk
- Elephants spray them selves with water and dirt to keep bugs and harmful sun rays away.
- Elephant tusks are forever growing, not stop, forever and ever, until they die. Ya its that
long.
- Male and female African elephants both grow tusks, while the female Asian elephant does not.
- They have 6 large molars located on both side of the mouth on top and bottom.
- An elephant literally walks on its toes.
- Elephants spend 16 hrs a day searching for leaves, shrubs, fruits, and bark, and will
consume between 300 - 400 lbs of food and 50 gallons of water.
- Elephant herds are very social. Yound adults will even
babysit" the younger children.
- Herds are led by the oldest most experienced cow (female elephant). In youre face male dominating
dudes.
- The Asian elephant occupies forests and semi-open or dense scrub with access to water and shade.
They live in Srilanka, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Burma, Malaysia, and Sumatra. The African elephant lives in the savannah,
dense scrub, and forest areas of central, southern and eastern Africa.
