First lets talk about hippos. Hippos are really cool. Hippos are really large. Hippos Kick butt!!! OK ya so here are some pictures and some stuffies about them, so enjoy.

Hippo.
Woah its a hippo named Moe!!! really thats what the thingy said!!!

Hippo Facts:
  • The name "hippopotomus" means "river horse" in greek. whoever named it that must have had a little too much christmas eggnog!!!
  • Hippos are the 3rd largest animal on land. ya, i said 3rd!!!
  • Scientists say hippos may now be more closley related to the whale then rather than the pig like they thought before
  • Hippos are herbivores
  • They can eat up to 150 lbs of grass a day!!! god what piggies!!!
  • Hippos eat grass by grabbing the very bottom of the blades, then they swish their head from side to side to tear it out of the ground. id'nt dat neeeeeeeeeat!!!
  • their lips can be up to 24 inches wide.
  • They have 4 giant toes that are close together so its easier to swim. like giant fat flippers.
  • Hippo skin can be 1/2 in thick.
  • Since their skin is so sensitive it secretes a light pink-ish to light red-ish oil type of liquid that acts as a sun block and moisturizer.
  • Hippo mouths contain 4 huge canine teeth used only for battle not for food. The teeth used for eating are way in the back and are flat like donuts without holes in them. Ooh no like apples, ya apples!!!
  • When hippos "yawn" they arent really all sleep y like you would think, they show that when they are feeling threatened.
  • A female hippo only gives birth every 2-3 years which isnt very often since they only have one calf at a time.
  • Hippos give birth under water and on land. When a baby is born on land it is sort of risky becuase they might get smooshed (i know isnt it soooo sad), so mothers like to give birth in the water for 3 reasons.  1) the babies wont get killed (always a plus)  2) the water can support them while in birth  3) hippos feel more comfortable in water than on land.
  • A hippo group is called a bloat. Ya i know what youre thinking "a bloat why the hell a bloat" well to answer youre question i have no fricken clue.
